The antique bracelet originates from England, and Whitby jet is from the English seaside town of Whitby. It is a fossilized wood from the ancient monkey puzzle tree. Jet from the Whitby region is said to be the best quality due to its tough density and high sheen. Jet was popularized by Queen Victorian who wore only black mourning jewellery following the death of her beloved husband Prince Albert in 1861.
The bracelet remains a fabulous statement piece today and is a wonderful example of Victorian-era jewellery!
