This pair of oval shaped cut glass dresser jars have a sterling silver lid that feature flowing curved linear and floral repousse decorations in an Art Nouveau style, circa 1904. The lids are pierced where the floral decoration is - the piercing looks possibly to have been done at a later date. The attractive dresser jars measure 5" inches long by 2" inches wide by (largest) and smaller one measures 4"inches by 1 3/4" inches.
The heavy & ornately cut glass design, otherwise known as 'Hobnail' cut glass is lovely and was generally used as the ladies dressing jar rather than the gentleman's. The glass was very carefully hand held and manoeuvred as it made contact with the grinding wheels. This was a very skilled, precise and incredibly time consuming technique.

The lids have been left with patina- no buffing or machine polishing, the pierced section to the floral repousse looks to have possibly been done at a later date and the lid has minor usage marks from loving usage over the years. The glass bodies to both have minor flea bites. |
