A particularly nice antique Scottish pebble brooch from the mid Victorian era, c1870! Made of sterling silver the Scottish brooch comprises of eight agate segments forming a circular floriform design within a silver frame and hardstone backing. The rich earthy tones of the agates (aka jaspagates) amalgamate beautifully and the varying segments appear to be placed strategically opposite, forming a cross. The high polished stones, all mined from the bonnie Scottish mountains in the 19th century, have been hand grinded and shaped to fit perfectly snug like a jigsaw. A brown hardstone backing, pin and c-clasp makes up the rest of the piece.
