Antique Victorian Hair Bangle with Decorative 15ct Gold Crossover Ends

A wonderful antique hair bangle from the Victorian era, circa 1870! Made of human hair and 15ct gold fittings, this exquisite work of art is in fantastic condition and carries oodles of Victorian sentiment! The hair is soft and flexible allowing for a comfy wrist fit. The 15ct gold entwined ends are adorned with wonderful hand-engraved flowers, scrolls and flourishes. Although the ends fit snug into place, there is a tongue connection fitted to one end, along with a safety chain for extra security. The bangle is further adorned with three angled 15ct gold sections, each featuring a tightly woven braid of hair to the recessed front section. The gold sections are riveted to one side at the back, securing one cross-over end, the other end pulls out allowing the bangle to fit over the hand.. cleverly designed! The all-over fine hand artistry workmanship is outstanding!

All the gold fittings have been XRF tested to 15ct gold, no stamps are visible to the piece.  There is a reddish (lacquer?) tinge to the hair work which may have been there since day dot, otherwise the hair retains a tight weave (aka table work hair) with barely any fraying.

As with many 19th century hair pieces, this one was either made in mourning "Momento mori" or made as a love token from a loved one if they were to be separated from each other. Likely English origin.
